the Flowers of Spain
04:09
|
|||
Old Barcelona shimmering grey in the rain,
You wiped the lens of your camera, and I did the same.
Who would have thought that this one act would bring us
to where we are today?
Who will believe this, back in Badalona?
She was from out there and I was pretending to be,
From somewhere exotic that suited her fine pedigree.
She saw right through this, but still she offered to take me for a while.
Who will believe this, back in Badalona?
From the Roses of Old England
to Persia’s fragrant plains
There’s none to compare,
none to compare,
You won’t find finer in this world,
anywhere, than the Flowers of Spain.
We’d sit in the cafe and watch the locksmith work his key.
I was surprised when he handed it finished, to me.
“It’s for the senorita, maybe now you’ll unlock her heart!”
Who will believe this, back in Badalona?
She said, “Whoa now ‘lover!’ there’s tenement dust on your shoes!
Yes, I could love you, if only I were free to choose.
But in a week I’m to marry, and soon all my soirees in high society..”
Who will believe this, back in Badalona?
From the Roses of Old England
to Persia’s fragrant plains
There’s none to compare,
none to compare,
You won’t find finer in this world,
anywhere, than the Flowers of Spain.
From the Roses of Old England
to Persia’s fragrant plains
There’s none to compare,
none to compare,
You won’t find finer in this world,
anywhere, than the Flowers of Spain.

Old and Gold
03:16
|
|||
Be aware somebody is on your side,
As long as I’ve got a breath to break
And don’t ever stop living your dream,
The world is yours to take,
My friend,
The world is yours to take.
Now we haven’t spoke much,
Since the kids came along
Guess I thought that you needed the break.
Don’t dismay at my staying away,
That was my mistake,
My friend,
That was my mistake.
Old and Gold
My friend
Old and Gold
And it lights up the water
That’s under the bridge
Old and Gold
My friend
Old and Gold
‘No man is an Island’
Or so the poem say
But I threw myself out there, in the drink
Never once lost sight of your lights
No matter what you think,
My friend,
No matter what you think.
Old and Gold
My friend
Old and Gold
And it lights up the water
that’s under the bridge,
And it’s as sweet as a can
at the back of the fridge
And it’s years old,
With so much more to give..
Old and Gold
My friend
Old and Gold

Stay for a while, come rest your head on my shoulder,
It’s already late, and the night’s grown colder.
Say that you might, you’ve no need to hurry.
You’ve got no place you’ve got to go,
and no one to worry.
And if we should find ourselves in each other’s arms..well what’s the harm!
..Put it down to the moonlight, and the old guitar.
Sorry but I can’t stay, the hour is late and I’ve got to go.
We’ve been here before and I know this feeling.
I must say goodnight, before we regret it.
It’s a feeling we used to know,
But we should forget it.
And though the night is cold and the wine tastes sweet...oh I must retreat!
..Put it down to the moonlight, and the old guitar.
This serenade is growing old, my love.
Overplayed, and in memory of
some feelings we may have once been guilty of.
But there’s still more than just a little charm
To be found in the moonlight, and the old guitar.
In the moonlight, and the old guitar
In the moonlight, and the old guitar
In the moonlight, in the moonlight
In the moonlight, in the moonlight
and the old guitar.
In the moonlight, in the moonlight
In the moonlight, in the moonlight
and the old guitar.

Slowcoach
02:55
|
|||
If you drive in by the lake,
There’s a levy on the crossing.
The faster road to take,
But it’s gonna cost you more.
The price i’ll gladly pay if it
gets me home much quicker,
You know I cannot stay away from you,
one minute more.
Slowcoach, carry me over the border.
Take me where my lover waits for me.
Slowcoach, wont you tarry no longer.
No wonder this old heart’s a refugee.
Well if home is where the heart is,
Well thats where mine should be.
I’ll write you every day,
And I wait upon your letter.
Words, so hard to say,
flow like tributes from my pen.
“how are you?”, “I miss you!”,
“I’m glad you’re feeling better”
You know I cannot stay away from you,
one night again.
Slowcoach, carry me over the border.
Take me where my lover waits for me.
Slowcoach, wont you tarry no longer.
No wonder this old heart’s a refugee.
Well if home is where the heart is,
Well thats where mine should be.
The world, they say’s
Getting smaller every day,
Well it’s the opposite I’d say
when I’m without you.
Well it’s always been this way,
It’s the price I have to pay,
Just to be out on the road to sing about you.
The miles to Journey’s End
Well they always seem the longest.
Sure, you’ve got your friends
For to keep your spirits high.
Somewhere round the bend,
Between the diamonds and the rubies
Stretched so far ahead, You wish that
You had wings to fly.
Slowcoach, carry me over the border.
Take me where my lover waits for me.
Slowcoach, dont you tarry no longer.
No wonder this old heart’s a refugee.
Well if home is where the heart is,
Well thats where mine should be. (repeat)

Sweet Ivy
03:39
|
|||
Sweet Ivy, Sweet Ivy, where did it go wrong?
Well I guess that we knew that it would all along
Could we have tried harder, Could we get along?
Sweet Ivy..
Alicante, Alicante, the place where we met
When I fell at your feet, in some bar, soaking wet!
Had you any sense girl, You’d have turned around and left!
Alicante..
Sooner or later you’ll get kicked to the kerb,
Where even the smartest of fools will observe,
Whether you lead or whether you serve,
Surrender you must to life’s great learning curve.
White Russians, White Russians, were all that we’d drink
And the glasses piled high, all over the sink.
Between all those glasses, we’d no time to think
White Russians..
Paranoia, Paranoia was bound to set in,
Who was that young barber? Was she looking at him?
Soon the green fishes around your head swim!
Paranoia!
Sooner or later you’ll get kicked to the kerb,
Where even the smartest of fools will observe,
Whether you lead or whether you serve,
Surrender you must to life’s great learning curve.
Misadventure, Misadventure, the court did record
The way that they found you, wrapped up in that cord.
The scandal was something I could not afford
Misadventure
Sweet Ivy, Sweet Ivy, around your grave grows.
It shelters your name from the rain and the snow.
When I get out, I’ll come say hello!
Sweet Ivy! Sweet Ivy!
Sooner or later you’ll get kicked to the kerb,
Where even the smartest of fools will observe,
Whether you lead or whether you serve,
Surrender you must to life’s great learning curve.
Whether you lead or whether you serve,
Surrender you must to life’s great learning curve.

Songs of Yesteryear
04:06
|
|||
The Winter wind had slowed us down some,
We still carried on.
The faces of our women round the campfire,
keep us strong.
The years we’ve been travelling now, with our
hopes and our fears,
And all the while the sound of childrens’ laughter
In our ears.
Oh the Joy! and all the tears!
As we sing out tomorrow, the songs of yesteryear.
The chemical imbalances, the synapses, the touch.
The shift from “How I love you!” to “I don’t like you much!”
So strike out in the wilderness, try and make yourself a home,
And realise when you make it, you left your heart to roam.
Oh the Joy! And all the tears!
We will always be lovers, in the songs of yesteryear.
So sing out a song, sing an old song,
If we know it we’ll all sing along.
For when tonight, it is over,
Only the song will linger on.
This process of emancipation, it’s like dancing to the sun.
Aye, maybe it’ll heal you, won’t change what’s been done.
So cast your shroud of secrecy, and for god sake Smile!
And remember who you’re singing for, will make it all worthwhile..
.. All the joy, and all the tears.
As we sing out tomorrow, the songs of yesteryear.
As we sing out tomorrow, the songs of yesteryear.

Oh Cruel Sea!
03:44
|
|||
Oh the Sea, It’s cruel to me.
It’s taken my only love.
She’s boarded the boat to Liverpool,
In truth, she had enough.
Well we argued fierce, we argued rough,
Much like the weather now.
Well ,they’ve not berthed, I fear the worst..
The sea must have them now.
Oh Cruel Sea!
Oh Cruel Sea!
Well you’ve taken the best of our sailors, and,
You’ve taken my love from me.
Why did we have to argue so?
Why did we have to row?
If only I had kept my head,
She’d be beside me now.
Well, I curse my drinking,
I curse my pride, I curse my jealousy,
Well it’s all I can do just to sit and wait,
Upon this lonely quay.
Oh Cruel Sea!
Oh Cruel Sea!
Well you’ve taken the best of our sailors, and,
You’ve taken my love from me.
So if you have some sense, my friends,
listen to my tale.
And don’t you fight or enter spite,
Before your love sets sail.
For to find true love or happiness,
It’s rarer than any jewel.
And while don’t you forget, though your tears sting wet,
The sea is twice as cruel.
Oh Cruel Sea!
Oh Cruel Sea!
Well you’ve taken the best of our sailors, and,
You’ve taken my love from me.
Oh Cruel Sea!
Oh Cruel Sea!
Well you’ve taken the best of our sailors, and,
You’ve taken my love from me.

The Seasons are turning,
Autumn’s come so fast.
Those long summer evenings,
Well, they never do last.
We’ve turned a corner,
from loves young dream.
Together growing older,
Well how long has it been?
Sometimes I’m drowning,
But what can I do?
You were meant for me,
And I was meant to be,
Right here for you.
Seems that Fate
has placed us together.
Seems that Fate
has placed us together.
And it’s fated we’ll stay,
Here together,
For all of our time
For all of our time
Here on this earth.
Seems that Fate
has placed us together.
Seems that Fate
has placed us together.
And it’s fated we’ll stay,
Here together,
For all of our time
For all of our time
Here on this earth.
The Seasons are turning,
Autumn’s come so fast.
Those long summer evenings,
Well, they never do last..
